Privacy Policy
Our practice-test app for learner drivers in Quebec, Canada — published as “SAAQ Test Quebec” on the Apple App Store and “SAAQ Knowledge Test: QC” on Google Play (the “app”).
Last updated 3 September 2026
In one sentence: the app has no accounts and your name stays on your phone. Depending on the version you are using and the features you turn on, we may send a device identifier and your practice-test progress to our servers so your results survive a reinstall, and we may use analytics to understand how the app is used.
1. About this policy
Movil Softwares Inc. (“we”, “us”) built and publishes our practice-test app for learner drivers in Quebec, Canada — published as “SAAQ Test Quebec” on the Apple App Store and “SAAQ Knowledge Test: QC” on Google Play (the “app”). This policy explains what personal information the app collects, why, who else sees it, and what you can do about it.
It covers the app and any later version of it released under a different name for the same jurisdiction. It does not cover the App Store, Google Play, or any website we link to; those are run by other organisations under their own privacy policies.
We handle your information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25.
We are not affiliated with the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) or with any government body. The app is an independent study aid. It is not an official test, and passing it does not guarantee anything about the real one.
2. The short version
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Do I need an account? | No. There is no sign-up, no login and no password. |
| Do you know my name? | No. The app asks for a first name to greet you with; it is stored on your device and never sent to us. |
| Are there ads? | Not at the moment. If we introduce advertising, we will update this policy and the app's store listing before we do. |
| Do you sell my data? | No. We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone, for any purpose. |
| Do you track my location? | No. The app never requests location access. |
| What leaves my device? | It depends on the version and the features you use. It may include a device identifier, the jurisdiction you selected, your test progress and scores, and app usage and crash diagnostics. |
| Can I get it deleted? | Yes — email us and we will delete the record for your device. |
3. What we may collect
This section describes the categories of information the app may collect. Not all of it is collected in every version of the app, and some of it depends on features you choose to use. We describe the full range here so that you know what to expect, rather than rewriting this policy every time a feature changes. Where something is not collected today, we say so.
Information that stays on your device
The app asks for a first name, and optionally a last name, so it can address you by name. It also remembers your answers to the short set-up questions, the jurisdiction and vehicle type you chose, your language, and a local copy of your progress. All of this is stored only on your device, in the app's own storage. It is not transmitted to us, and it is erased when you uninstall the app.
Information the app may send to us
So that your progress is not lost when you reinstall or change device, the app may create a record for your device in our database, which is hosted on Google Cloud Firestore. Where it does, that record may contain:
- a device identifier — on Android the Android ID, on iOS the “identifier for vendor”. Both are generated by your operating system and are specific to your device. They are not your name, phone number or email address, and they do not identify you personally to us;
- the jurisdiction you selected;
- your practice-test progress — which tests you have taken, your score on each, whether you passed, how many attempts you made, and when;
- whether you have finished the introductory screens;
- timestamps for when the record was created and last changed.
This is what lets you close the app, come back later or reinstall it, and still find your progress.
Usage and diagnostic information
We may use analytics and crash-reporting services — currently Google Firebase Analytics, Google Firebase Crashlytics and Mixpanel — to understand how the app is used and to find out when it breaks. Where these are active they may collect:
- events such as the app being opened, a screen being viewed, a test being started or finished, and taps on the subscription screens — keyed to the same device identifier described above;
- properties we set, such as your country, jurisdiction, vehicle type and whether you have a subscription;
- standard technical information collected automatically by these tools, such as device model, operating system version, app version, language, coarse region, and the time of the event;
- if the app crashes: a crash report with the technical state of the app at the time.
We use this to understand how people actually study — which lessons get used, where people give up, which tests are too hard — and to decide what to build and fix next.
On Android, the Google Analytics library may also use the advertising ID your device provides. Today we use it only to count and understand app usage — not to show you advertising, not to build an advertising profile, and not to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Advertising
The app does not currently display advertising. We may introduce it in a future version, most likely as a way of offering more of the content free of charge. If we do, then in the versions that show ads we and our advertising partners may collect and use:
- your device's advertising identifier — the Advertising ID on Android or, if you allow it, the Identifier for Advertisers on iOS;
- ad interaction data — which ads were shown to you, whether you viewed or tapped them, and coarse information about your device and approximate region used to decide which ad to show.
If and when that happens, we will update this policy and the app's App Store and Google Play disclosures before the change reaches you, and where the law requires your consent for advertising or personalised advertising, we will ask for it in the app first. You will always be able to limit ad personalisation using the controls in your device settings described in section 10.
Purchases
If you buy a subscription or a one-off unlock, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see or receive your card number, billing address or payment details. The app receives a confirmation that a purchase is valid, and records which tier you hold so it can unlock the right content.
4. What we never collect
Unlike the section above, these do not vary between versions. They are commitments, not descriptions:
- No precise location. The app does not ask for location permission. Were a future version ever to need it, your device would ask you first and you could refuse.
- No contacts, photos, camera, microphone, calendar, files or health data.
- No payment card details. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple and Google; your card number never reaches us.
- No sale or rental of your personal information, to anyone, for any purpose — including if we introduce advertising.
- No special category data — nothing about your health, beliefs, ethnicity or anything similar.
- No email address or phone number, unless you choose to write to us.
- Nothing knowingly collected from a child under 13.
On Android the app currently requests a single permission: internet access.
5. Why we use it
- To run the app — to show you the right content for your jurisdiction and vehicle, and to save and restore your progress.
- To deliver what you paid for — to unlock premium content and let you restore a purchase on a new device.
- To fix problems — crash reports tell us what broke and on which devices.
- To improve the app — knowing which lessons and tests are actually used tells us what to write more of, and where people get stuck.
- To understand how people study — usage patterns in aggregate, so we can judge whether a change helped or hurt.
- To show advertising, if we introduce it — and to measure whether it worked. See section 3.
- To meet our legal obligations — for example, keeping records we are required to keep.
We do not use your information to make any automated decision that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We use a small number of service providers who process information on our instructions. The list below is current as at the date of this policy; if we add a provider in a category already described here, we will update this table.
| Provider | What it does for us | Their privacy policy |
|---|---|---|
| Google (Firebase — Firestore, Analytics, Crashlytics) | Stores your progress record; app usage measurement; crash reporting | firebase.google.com/support/privacy |
| Mixpanel | Product analytics — which features are used | mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| Apple | App distribution and purchase processing on iOS | apple.com/legal/privacy |
| Google Play | App distribution and purchase processing on Android | policies.google.com/privacy |
| Advertising partners — none at present | Would serve and measure ads if we introduce advertising. We will name them here before that happens. | — |
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to — for example in response to a valid court order — or to establish or defend a legal claim, or to protect the safety of a person. If our business is sold or reorganised, information may transfer with it; the buyer would remain bound by this policy until you are told otherwise.
7. Where it is processed
We are a Canadian company. Our analytics and database providers process information on servers that may be located outside your province and outside Canada, including in the United States. While information is in another country it may be accessible to the courts and law-enforcement authorities of that country under its laws. We use providers that contractually commit to protecting the information to a comparable standard.
8. Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law you have the following rights. To use any of them, email us at app@movilsoftwares.com.
- Access
- Ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Deletion
- Ask us to delete the record associated with your device.
- Withdraw consent
- Withdraw your consent to our collection and use of your information at any time. Some features stop working if you do — for example, your progress will no longer sync.
- Complain
- Raise a concern with us, and with your privacy regulator if you are not satisfied.
We will respond within the time your law allows — and in any case as quickly as we reasonably can. We do not charge for this.
One practical note: because the app has no accounts, your record is keyed to a device identifier rather than to your name or email. To find and delete the right record we may need to ask you for information about your device. We will ask for as little as possible.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can contact:
- the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada — www.priv.gc.ca · 1-800-282-1376
- the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec — www.cai.gouv.qc.ca · 1-888-528-7741
9. Additional information for Quebec residents
Law 25 gives you some rights and gives us some duties beyond those set out above.
- Person in charge of the protection of personal information. The person responsible for our compliance is our Privacy Officer, reachable at app@movilsoftwares.com.
- Portability. You may ask us to give you the computerised personal information you provided to us in a structured, commonly used technological format, or to send it to another organisation.
- No automated decision-making. We do not use your personal information to make any decision about you based exclusively on automated processing. Your test scores are shown back to you; they are not used to decide anything about you.
- Identification, localisation and profiling technology. The app does not currently use any. If we introduce advertising that relies on profiling, we will tell you in the app and give you the means to activate and deactivate it, as Law 25 requires. The app does not collect your location.
- French. This policy is also available in French, and the app itself is available in French.
10. Your choices and controls
- Stop analytics collection — on Android, you can delete or reset your advertising ID and opt out of ad personalisation in Settings → Privacy → Ads. On iOS, the app does not use the advertising identifier at all.
- Turn off reminders — study reminders are local notifications; switch them off in your device's notification settings for the app.
- Clear on-device data — uninstalling the app removes your name, settings and local progress from your device.
- Delete your server-side record — uninstalling does not delete the progress record on our servers, because it is what lets you restore progress after reinstalling. Email us and we will delete it.
- Manage a subscription — subscriptions are managed in your App Store or Google Play account settings, not in the app.
11. How long we keep it
- On-device data — until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
- Your progress record — while the app is in use, and for up to 24 months after the last activity from your device, after which it is deleted. We delete it sooner if you ask.
- Analytics events — for the retention period set in each provider's tools, which we keep to 14 months or less.
- Crash reports — up to 90 days.
- Emails you send us — for as long as we need them to deal with your query, and then for a reasonable period as a record.
12. How we protect it
Information travels between the app and our providers over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure, which is encrypted at rest. Access to our database is limited to the people who need it to run the service, and is protected by two-factor authentication.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot promise absolute security. What we can promise is that we collect as little as we can get away with — the less we hold, the less there is to lose.
13. Children
The app is a study aid for learner drivers and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app and given us information, write to us and we will delete it.
If you are under 14, please use the app with a parent or guardian's involvement, and ask them before you make a purchase. In Quebec, consent from the person having parental authority is required for a minor under 14.
14. Changes to this policy
This policy describes a range of things the app may do, so that ordinary product changes do not leave it out of date. That flexibility comes with a commitment: if we start collecting a category of information for a purpose this policy does not already cover, or we begin showing advertising, we will update this page and tell you in the app before the change reaches you — not afterwards. Where the law requires your consent for the new use, we will ask for it first.
Every change is dated at the top of this page. Older versions are available on request.
